Phonics

We have recently introduced the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Phonics Scheme which is being taught in KS1 (Reception, Year 1 and Year 2). The purpose is to commit phonics learning to long-term memory to assist children in learning to read as quickly as is reasonably possible, so they can move from learning to read to reading to learn. Children progress through the four phases of the scheme and the intention is that all four phases will be completed in KS1. However,  phonics learning can continue in KS2 for children that take longer to work through the phases.

Children in KS1 receive a minimum of 20 minutes phonics teaching every day and they are split into two groups based on ability.
